Orana Mall is the dominant retail centre in Dubbo, servicing the daily and weekly shopping needs of Dubbo residents and attracting business from a large population base within the Orana and Far Western regions of New South Wales. The centre is located at the junction of the Mitchell Highway and Wheelers Lane, approximately 3.5 kilometres east of the city centre.
The City of Dubbo is a major regional centre in the central western region of NSW, located 375km north west of Sydney. The population of Dubbo is almost 42,000 residents, making it one of the largest inland cities in the state. Orana Mall’s economic strength is largely supported by its role as the premier shopping mall to the broader Orana Region and north western areas of NSW. Orana Mall is a fully enclosed, single level, sub- regional shopping centre occupying a site of 6 hectares with a current gross lettable area of 20 047 square metres. The centre was opened in 1979, with major extensions carried out in 1987 and 1993.
The major tenants at the centre include a Big W discount store and Woolworths supermarket. The Centre contains a significant number of specialty retailers being a major attraction for residents of the surrounding rural towns. The centre has a strong mix of national retailers, financial institutions, service outlets, ATM’s, food court and Woolworths Plus Petrol. The car park can be accessed from Wheelers Lane, Mitchell Highway and Birch Avenue, and provides 1,006 car spaces at the present time.
Orana Mall was placed 7th nationally in the specialty MAT/m² category for the “SCN 2012 Little Guns”. This is a comparison of shopping centres across Australia in the 20,000m² to 45,000m² category. Orana Mall performs very well compared to centres more than twice its size.
Orana Mall has an approved DA and is about to embark on a major redevelopment over the next 3 years.
